Functional Chain - Train the Kinetic Chain Functionally
 Presented by Donald Gallucci
October 11, 2012 12:00pm EDT

Movement can be functional and will provide the necessary skills to perform activities for daily living. Functional movements contain certain qualities essential to perform the ideal motor skill sequence. Developing an exercise program requires insight and knowledge regarding functional movement. Understanding movement patterns, identifying muscle imbalance and dysfunction are necessary to properly progress your client. This presentation will encompass all areas to develop the optimal program and keep your client fit.

Objective 1: Observe and Assess: Observe the individual's posture, movement and gait cycle looking for possible misalignment and dysfunctions. Assess the individual's Range of Motion and implement a movement screen to display muscle imbalances.

Objective 2: Identify and Correct: Develop an exercise program to isolate muscle exposed in assessments. Create progression of exercises to improve the strength and function of muscle(s).

Objective 3: Integrate into Function: Introduce the importance of posture, engaging core and correct breathing that will enhance the action. Provide instruction guiding the individual to perform multi joint functional exercises that will involve identified muscle.
