The webinar "Current Guidelines for Prenatal Fitness” will provide an overview that covers the effects of exercise on the physiological changes of pregnancy and fetal response. The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) guidelines and research in the field of maternal fitness will be discussed, as well as the contraindications for exercise. Innovative techniques for modifying each component of a fitness program and guidelines for strength and flexibility training will be described.

Webinar Objectives:

Upon completion of this webinar, the participant will be able to:

-Identify the principal effects exercise has on the physiological changes of pregnancy.

-Describe how exercise impacts fetal stress response.

-Identify ACOG absolute and relative contraindications to exercise during pregnancy.

-Describe prenatal warning signs and symptoms to terminate exercise.

-List the four components of a prenatal exercise design.

-Describe how to develop a safe and effective strength and flexibility exercise program.


Catherine Cram is an exercise physiologist and specialist in the field of maternal fitness. Her consulting company, "Comprehensive Fitness Consulting, LLC” (www.ppfconsulting.com) specializes in providing the most current pre-and postnatal exercise information and certificate trainings to medical, fitness and military healthcare providers. Catherine has a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and serves as the maternal fitness consultant for www.babyfit.com.

She co-authored the 2012-revised edition of "Exercising Through Your Pregnancy” with Dr. James Clapp. She was a contributing author of the text "Women’s Health Care in Physical Therapy: Principles and Practices for Rehabilitation Specialists”, and the author of the book, "Fit Pregnancy for Dummies”.
