"Multi-Sensory Training for Mature Adults"

Presented by Cody Sipe

Friday, September 11th from 12pm - 1pm Eastern Standard Time

Learning Objectives:

- Describe the role of the visual, vestibular and somatosensory systems in balance and gait.

- List appropriate assessments for each of the sensory systems.

- Identify effective training strategies for each of the sensory systems.

Seminar Description:

Balance is a multi-factorial component of physical function.  Collectively, the three sensory systems -visual, vestibular and somatosensory - play a large role in balance and gait by receiving and interpreting critical environmental data.  This allows our bodies to respond with the appropriate motor strategies that will keep us upright.  The aging process is associated with declines in each of these sensory systems.  This session will focus on how fitness professionals can assess and train each of these systems to improve balance and gait in older clients.
