AKTA Workshop

"Exercise Programming in Select Populations"

Saturday, November 21st from 9am-12pm in the New Orleans Convention Center, Room 205

Attendance is included with the 24th Annual Conference Registration Ticket 

CEC's have been approved for 3 contact hours by AKTA. 


Summary:

This presentation will be a guided round table discussion on exercise programming for cardiac rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, and those with traumatic brain injury.  The attendees will be provided scenarios on different populations and then will be guided through discussions on assessments, goals and programming for each population.   There will also be discussion of current ‘evidence-based’ programs for each population. 
  
Faculty:
Cynthia Howell, RKT and Melissa Ziegler, MA, FMFA, RKT

BIO:
Cynthia Howell has served as an Executive Board Member for the American Kinesiotherapy Association for the past  7 years. She works for the Department of Veteran Affairs at the Long Beach Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Cynthia also serves as a Dance Instructor for the past 14 years at MMS Dance Studio. She received her Bachelors of Science in 2006 and will finish her Masters in Public Health Education and Promotion from San Jose State University in 2016.

Mrs. Ziegler is a graduate student in the doctoral program in Higher Education Administration at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS has a Master’s of Arts in Human Performance with a specialization in Exercise Science from the University of Houston-Clearlake in Houston, TX and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance with an emphasis in Kinesiotherapy from the University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Ziegler has served as the Executive Director for the American Kinesiotherapy Association for the last 9 years and is as an instructor in the Kinesiotherapy program at the University of Southern Mississippi.  She has been a member of the Medical Fitness Association for 8 years.
