|Hank Boerner Pioneer Award|
The Board of Directors and Professional Staff of the Medical Fitness Association report with great sadness, the loss of Hank Boerner, founding member of the association and director of the North Mississippi Medical Center Wellness Center for the past twenty years. He passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012.
We remember Hank as a true gentleman with a passion for helping his fellow man as witnessed by his many community contributions that have benefited his home town of Tupelo.
Hank was a pioneer who understood how critical the role of medical fitness plays in the lives of a community, and continuously involved himself and his center in initiatives that matter to the lives of individuals. These include his involvement in the Tupelo Health Task Force, and as a founder of Project Hope, providing fundraising activities to benefit patients suffering from heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
Hank served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Medical Fitness Association, and was also the board Chairman.
"Hank was the catalyst that brought so many active members to our organization. He cultivated engagement within the organization and did so in an organic and fun manner. His enthusiasm and humor were contagious and he became an inspirational mentor. This is an extreme loss to our organization. Hank has left an amazing legacy.” Jennifer Hopper, Manager of Piedmont Hospital Health and Fitness Club
"We have not only lost a Medical Fitness Association Founder but a true Pioneer, advocate and dear friend. He was selfless in his approach to always help and assist others in their life long pursuit of health and well-being. All of us who knew and worked with Hank realize the great loss we all feel but are happy to have had him in our lives for the time that we did."- Ken Germano, Past President and CEO, Medical Fitness Association.
The Hank Boerner Pioneer Award
To remember Hank, the Medical Fitness Association will rename its annual Pioneer Award, the Hank Boerner Pioneer Award. Few individuals epitomize the word ‘pioneer’ as Hank did. In fact, Hank won this award at the Medical Fitness Association Annual Conference in 2011.
Now, at the Medical Fitness Association Annual Conference in 2016, one proud individual will win the Hank Boerner
Pioneer Award. It is
a fitting dedication to an outstanding gentleman and medical fitness family
member. We will all miss you, Hank.
Nomination deadline has been extended till September 5, 2016.
