Meet Jeff Jeran
Jeff Jeran MS, CSCS, FMFA, holds a Master of Science (MS) degree from West Virginia University (WVU) in Exercise Physiology specializing in aquatic therapy and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Sports Medicine/Athletic training from Alderson Broaddus College. Jeff received football, baseball and academic scholarships while getting his BS and held internships while getting his MS at WVU as a Strength Coach for baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling under Mike Barwis, MS, CSCS, RSCC*E, NASE, BMI and did a Graduate Assistantship (GA) under Dr. Robert Chetlin, PhD, CSCS, HFI working in Neuromuscular research. Jeff also held internships in Cardiac Rehab, Aquatic Therapy and a paid internship as a Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2003, while working towards his MS.
Jeff is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), an Exercise is Medicine Level 1 by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) by the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF), American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, and has been published in the peer reviewed National Strength and Conditioning Professional Journal.
Jeff’s current position is the Director of Valley Health Wellness & Fitness Center (VHWFC) since October 2012. Prior to that, he opened the Hampshire Wellness & Fitness Center (HWC) as Director in August 2007. In 2008, he took on the additional role of Director of Hampshire Memorial Hospital Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services, where he was able to successfully design and start up new outpatient and inpatient clinics. In 2008, HWC received the Most Distinguished Medical Fitness Facility Award from the Medical Fitness Association (MFA) & in 2009 received the Most Distinguished Medical Fitness Director Award from the MFA. In 2010, Jeff was promoted to a corporate position as Valley Health Director of Fitness Services with responsibilities as Director of HWC, HMH Rehabilitation Services and the additional corporate oversight of 5 medical fitness programs at Valley Health’s 5 other hospitals in West Virginia and Virginia.
Both HWC and VHWFC are MFA Certified Medical Fitness Facilities since 2012 and 2015 respectively. VHWFC received the Honorable Mention Awards from the MFA as the Certified Medical Fitness Center of the Year in 2014 and 2015. In November 2015, Jeff received his Fellowship from the MFA for his contributions to the association over the previous eight years. In November 2017, Jeff was awarded the Director of Medical Fitness and Wellness of the Year Award and the VHWFC was awarded the top honor of Certified Medical Fitness Center of the Year by the MFA. In addition, Jeff was elected and now serves as an At Large member of the MFA Board of Directors.
Jeff has helped design and implement a new corporate employee wellness program called Healthy U and serves over 5,800+ hospital employees at 6 hospitals in West Virginia and Virginia. In the fall of 2013 and spring 2014, Valley Health Wellness Services received Gold Star and Gold Apple awards from Prevention Partners, Inc. and Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (VHHA) for employee smoking cessation and nutrition programs, and in December 2015 was awarded the Excellence Award for the wellness programs for all 6 hospitals, Prevention Partners, Inc. top award becoming the first Healthcare System in the US to receive this recognition. Valley Health is a 2 time Gold Well Workplace awarded organization with Wellness Counsels of America (WELCOA). In 2017 Valley Health was awarded the Platinum Well Workplace award through WELCOA.
Prior to working with Valley Health, Jeff held the positions of Wellness Director for companies, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH/CDC) and with General Electric (GE) Specialty Chemicals directing their employee’s corporate wellness programs both receiving WELCOA Well Workplace Awards.
When Jeff is not working he can be found outside golfing, alpine skiing, fishing, or hanging out with his family.
