Say hi to Samantha Dumas, SSP, NCSP, the Group Exercise Coordinator and Group Exercise Instructor at the Fitness Center of Thibodaux Regional in Thibodaux, LA. Samantha has a BA in Psychology and a Specialist degree in School Psychology (SSP). She has been with the Fitness Center of Thibodaux Regional for two years as an instructor and one year as the Group Exercise Coordinator.
We caught up with Samantha recently and here’s what she had to say…
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I know from experience that group exercise can have a profound impact on your life. What I enjoy most is watching the effect of group exercise our members, whether its weight loss or just seeing members come out of their shell and join the “FitThib family.” I love that we get people moving toward a healthier life and having fun at the same time. That is what group exercise is all about!
What led you to choose this field?
I sort of stumbled into this field. I began taking group exercise classes about 10 years ago while I was in undergrad. Slowly over the next few years, I moved from the back of the room to instructing on stage and quickly realized that group exercise was my true passion. When the group exercise coordinator position became available, I took a leap of faith and left my career as a school psychologist. I haven’t looked back since!
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love spending time with my husband Nolan, our 4 month old son Leo, and our two poodles Sophie and Ellie. We like to travel and stay active in our travels with activities like ziplining and hiking.
