Meet Stephanie Howie, MS, AHFA
Say hi to Stephanie Howie! Stephanie is the Fitness Director at The Center for Health Improvement in Hays, KS. She has been at her facility for 18 years.
Stephanie has an MS in Exercise Science from Fort Hays State University in KS. She also serves as an MFA State Captain for KS. (Thanks, Stephanie!)
We caught up with Stephanie recently and here is what she had to say.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I truly believe for me that the medical fitness industry is not “work”, it’s simply building relationships through health. Each day I step foot into The Center it is different and that is what I enjoy. The impact you can have on each person’s health is indescribable.
What led you to choose this field?
As I look back, I believe that growing up as an athlete had a tremendous impact on why I chose this field. The coaches in my life believed in me and took the time to push me further then what I imagined I could do myself, they motivated me. The feeling of being committed and dedicated to something as an athlete is something that I want to share with others who are striving to achieve their wellness goals.
What did your facility gain by becoming a member of and then Certified by the Medical Fitness Association?
The Center for Health Improvement has been a member of the Medical Fitness Association since 2010 and certified since 2011. Hays is a small community but is a significant health leader for Midwest KS. The Center wanted to be the best, a respected health and wellness facility by all physicians and the entire health system.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy coaching young adults at a local high school (paying it forward). My husband and I enjoy the outdoors; traveling, hiking as well as, gardening/landscaping.
Thank you, Stephanie and we’re glad you’re paying it forward too!
