We caught up with Tom recently and here’s what he had to say…
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The part of my work I enjoy the most is knowing that we are able to provide a safer and healthier solution to the medical fitness market place by being able to provide free weight equipment that has been scientifically proven to help protect members working out from contracting germs and cross contamination 24/7 in workout facilities.
Which innovation from your company do you feel has had the greatest impact on the fitness industry?
The innovation from Black Iron Strength® that has had the greatest impact on the fitness industry has been the ability to provide our equipment with touch surface handles utilizing the CuLEAN® antimicrobial copper that is EPA registered and approved to kill germs. Having the peer reviewed scientific studies to back up these claims has been helpful so we can show the medical fitness industry that what we claim is actually true with the research information behind the claims to back them up.
What are you most proud of when you talk about your company?
The part of Black Iron Strength® that I am most proud of is persisting on our journey to get the CuLEAN® antimicrobial copper approved by the Federal EPA and the EPA agencies in all 50 states. This entire government EPA approval process took 5+ years and thousands of dollars of R&D to get the products correct to meet the guidelines.
From your perspective as a business providing products to the medical fitness industry, what one piece of advice would you give to someone just coming into this field of medical fitness?
The best piece of advice I can give someone just entering the medical fitness industry is to research and find the safest and healthiest fitness equipment for your facilities and members who are going to be using the equipment in their journey to health. Look for fitness companies who are committed to medical fitness with research to back up their claims.
