Christopher Sawyer will help foster education, serving professionals across the United States.
Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, February 20, 2013 —The National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®), the leading education resource for those who care for pools and spas, announced the appointment of Mr. Christopher Sawyer to the position of Mission Development Specialist. Mr. Sawyer was recently hired to assist with the Foundation’s efforts to foster education, empowering and elevating more aquatic professionals across the United States.
Chris brings 10 years of experience in the aquatic industry to this position. As holder of the Certified Pool/Spa Operator® (CPO®) Certification, Chris qualified for, and received an NSPF $1,000 scholarship in 2009. "He’s really a perfect match to work with industry professionals because he understands the roles, as he himself has worked in many aspects of aquatics,” said Michelle Kavanaugh, Mission Development U.S., of the National Swimming Pool Foundation. "His passion for everything aquatic and helping others in our field is contagious.” Chris said, "I never imagined I would have the privilege to carry the torch of education to tens of thousands of pool professionals.” He added, "It’s an honor to help save lives and help promote the health benefits of aquatic activity.”
Chris has taught hundreds of people how to swim as an American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor. He has also taught water fitness for over five years as a certified IFTA Water Fitness instructor. Chris graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, holding a BSBA specializing in International Business with one year of exchange study in Mexico and Costa Rica. He studied Spanish Management, International Finance, Sustainable Development and World Geopolitics. For fun, besides splashing around in the water, he writes songs and sings; in his first week at the NSPF, Chris mixed the music for a World Aquatic Health™ Conference video.
"As more professionals around the world choose NSPF educational materials, we continue to assess and evolve our structure to better serve those who entrust us for their educational needs,” said Thomas M Lachocki, Ph.D, and CEO of the National Swimming Pool Foundation. In 2012, NSPF witnessed its ninth consecutive year of mission-focused educational growth with total educational revenue increase of 7% over the 2011 record. The Foundation re-invests a portion of its revenue into new science and is the chief philanthropic research sponsor in the aquatic field. The non-profit has donated over $4 million since 2003 to fund grants to prevent illness, injury, and drowning, and to demonstrate the health benefits of aquatic activity.
