Whether it’s frequent business travel or a summer vacation, one of the first things to go out the window when you are at a hotel is your workout. But, with a little bit of planning, you can stay motivated and consistent with your workouts. Here’s how:

Go online and see what your hotel offers.  You probably check out your hotel before you book it to make sure it has the amenities you like, so check out the gym too. Some hotel gyms are fully equipped with circuit machines, free weights, treadmills and ellipticals. Others have fantastic pools where you can swim laps, and some even have fitness classes.

Pack your exercise clothes in your suitcase. The easiest excuse for no workout is that you aren’t dressed properly. It doesn't fit in your suitcase?  Take out one pair of extra shoes to make room for your workout wear.

Bring a resistance band. The resistance band takes up less space in your suitcase than your cute summer dress or your box of business cards. You can work your muscles with a full range of motion and hit areas of the body you might miss with free weights. Resistance bands are not expensive either-usually under $20.

Grab the iPad and go to This app allows you to work out anywhere, anytime. Visit the FitnessClass download center and choose any type of workout and any trainer. With 400 plus videos to choose from you will probably find one you like. You also can choose between a monthly ClassPass membership of $10 or a yearly membership of around $69.

Hire a trainer.  Yup, right in your hotel room.  Go to  and connect with a live trainer anytime, any day.  You can book in advance and all you need is  laptop, webcam, internet connection and a little space. A Wello workout is just like working out with a personal trainer in a gym or attending a group fitness class at a studio, but it’s over live video.

Rely on what’s reliable—your body. If there’s one thing you won’t forget to pack, it’s, um, YOU. And that’s all you need to get a good workout in. Do some push-ups, sit-ups, squats, lunges, tricep dips, planks and stretches in your hotel room. You will be so proud of your dedication and bonus … nothing extra to pack!

Check out Runtastic. Read suggestions on running or walking routes, including mileage and difficulty level. Plus, use the GPS feature to avoid getting lost in that unfamiliar place you are visiting. Soon you won’t think travel means skipping workouts. You will have your choice on how to keep moving when you’re on the move.
