The Medical Fitness Association is now conducting its biannual 2017-2018 Compensation Survey.  This survey provides useful information that will help you and others in the medical fitness industry make salary decisions for facility management and staff.  Your participation is critical.
Please take a few minutes to respond so we can accurately provide the industry with this much needed data. All data entered is completely anonymous and viewed only by third party publishing house.

Please complete the online survey whether or not you are an MFA member, and complete a separate survey for each center within your organization.  It is very important that we have complete and accurate information. Any financial information provided will be presented only in aggregate analyses.  We will not reveal or publish your center's individual financial information.

  • All questionnaire and survey data is confidential and available only to appropriate staff and the survey analyst.  All questionnaires and related materials that identify your facility will be protected.  Only summary statistics will be published.

  • The survey should be completed by the facility manager or someone who has access to compensation and revenue data.  If the data is not available at the facility level, please seek the information from the appropriate department or organization.  This questionnaire should take no more than 30 minutes of your time once the required information is available.


  • A separate questionnaire should be completed for each facility even if some share ownership or management.  Please do not fill out this questionnaire if your facility is not open to the general public.

Please complete the following information for the personnel listed, if applicable. List the average salary/wage for a typical, or representative, FTE. There may be some variance in titles or duties at your facility. Data may need to be obtained from your hospital or another department. If your facility does not have one of the positions listed, please leave blank.
Oversees all operations of the medical fitness center including marketing, hiring, managing staff, budgets. Conducts long range strategic planning.

Share responsibility with Director for total center operations.

Responsible for retaining and recruiting members through promotional activities and center tours. Responsible for the marketing plan, membership records, and membership staff.

Retain and recruit members. Interface with prospects, receive calls, give tours, and determine prospect needs. Process membership paperwork. Run in-house promotional campaigns.

Responsible for all fitness programming. Hire and supervise fitness staff. Conduct fitness evaluations.

Conduct fitness testing and design fitness programs for members. Assist with use and maintenance of equipment.

Develops and promotes wellness programs and tracks outcomes. Hire, supervise, and schedule wellness staff.

Facilitates major wellness/disease management program initiatives.

Conduct individual weight/nutrition counseling sessions. Prepare personalized diet plans.

Responsible for coordinating, supervising, and teaching aerobics and group exercise classes. Hires and supervises aerobics instructors.

Teaches aerobics and group exercise classes.

Administers and oversees all pool programs.

Oversees daily operation of pools including mechanicals, chemicals, and life guards.

Responsible for the safety of all pool users.

Responsible for all front desk functions and front desk staff.

Input member computer data, schedule appointment, answer calls, operate cash register, and coordinate locker/towel functions.

Provide clerical support to include phone calls, greeting visitors, filing, scheduling, and word processing.

Responsible for financial procedures to include billing, account balances, payroll, petty cash, bank deposits, and financial reports.

Assist with all financial procedures and duties.

Hire, supervise, and schedule maintenance staff. Responsible for all overall maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.

Maintain cleanliness of the facility, towel and laundry functions, trash, deep cleaning, locker rooms, and furniture.

Care for and supervise children. Hire, schedule, and supervise staff.

Care for and supervise children. Maintain a clean and safe environment.

Responsible for all youth and children’s fitness programming.

Oversees multiple sites with center directors as direct reports.

Provides guidance for the center’s programming in order to maximize the safety of all participants and ensure medically sound practices.

Oversees the operation of the spa including marketing, spa staff, retail sales, and budgets.
