The Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act is the first legislation designed to provide an incentive for people to get and stay healthy in support of population health and in using exercise as medicine in the prevention of disease. The legislation will allow the use of Health Savings or Flex Spending Accounts to pay up to $1,000 per Individual, or $2,000 per family for exercise and sports related equipment, league fees, club memberships, etc. By incentivizing exercise in multiple forms, people will have an incentive to take personal responsibility for their own health through the medium of exercise thereby furthering the aims of Public Health through Prevention.
Participants will learn
1. The extent that chronic disease is caused by lifestyle choices
2. The impact of the lack of physical activity on health related expenses
3. The importance of broad based public support to influence congressional action
