Meet Art Slowinski
Art Slowinski, MS, CSCS, FMFA, is a native of Chicago, Art’s professional career in Fitness started in 1994 as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago Human Performance Lab. His background in fitness includes stress testing, cardiac rehab, wellness center start-up, personal training, clinical program development, strategic planning and operational excellence of multidisciplinary hospital based wellness centers. From 2007-2013, Art served as the Director of Operations at Galter LifeCenter in Chicago, a medically based wellness facility serving the needs of 8500 members. Galter LifeCenter is the first Medical Fitness Association Certified facility in Illinois and recognized by the MFA as a distinguished facility in 2010. As a passionate, customer focused innovator, Art has transitioned his leadership skills to become a Physician Practice Manager for Advocate Heart Institute in Elmhurst, a Cardiology Practice that includes 13 providers and supports over 80,000 Cardiology patients.
Art has been an active member of the Medical Fitness Association since 2001. Through grass roots efforts, Art helped MFA gain exposure and membership growth by introducing fitness professionals to networking and best practice forums in what eventually became the first regional meeting. He received the Don Schneider Distinguished Service Award in 2005 for his efforts. He has served as State Captain, Central Region Chair, Certification Committee member, Physician Task Force co-chair and a MFA Board of Directors Member from 2012 until 2017. Art became an inaugural MFA Fellow in 2013, and continues to serve as a Lead Examiner in the MFA Facility Certification program.
Art holds a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of Illinois. Art competed in Division I Collegiate Football, coached High School track and field for 12 years and coached youth football. Art was a member of Life Fitness Academy Education Training Network from 2003-2014, Chair of the Applied Health Sciences Board at UIC from 2004-2014 and has presented internationally for MFA and other professional organizations. He is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist since 1995. He enjoys weight-training, cycling, international travel and spending family time with his wife Nikki and four kids, Isabella, Markus, Jaiden and Mia. He is a devoted foodie, so when he is traveling, you may spot him in your town at top rated restaurants!
