Say hi to Cindy Cope, Senior Director at the Chelsea Wellness Center in Chelsea, MI. She has been with the Center since it opened in 2001. Cindy has a Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University.
Cindy also received the Individual Professional of the Year Award at the MFA Annual Conference in November. The Individual Professional of the Year award recognizes an individual who has displayed significant achievements as administrator or facility director.
We caught up with Cindy recently and here is what she had to say.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Definitely the people – Our dedicated, hardworking, fun Wellness Center team, our awesome members and guests and the community members who support our mission.
What has been your favorite/most successful initiative at your fitness/wellness center?
Our Annual Wellness Challenge has to be one of my favorite initiatives. Our team does a fantastic job getting members excited and motivated to work hard to make positive changes in their lives. The point system is great, because it rewards participation (not just results) and encourages members to challenge themselves and try new things. In the end, every participant is a winner.
What led you to choose this field?
I have always enjoyed an active lifestyle and wanted to share my love for health and fitness with others. For the first 15 years of my career, I found my work in Cardiac Rehab extremely rewarding, assisting individuals in recovering from their cardiac event and returning to an active lifestyle. Now, in the Wellness Center, I love that the focus is both preventative and rehabilitative.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to golf, travel, read and spend time with family and friends. With 2 new beautiful granddaughters (1 month and 6 months old), I have also been trying to get in as much “grandma time” as I can. I taught myself how to crochet last year (thanks to YouTube) and have made several baby blankets, Christmas stockings, afghans, scarves and slippers for family and friends.
Thank you, Cindy and congratulations on your Professional Individual of the Year Award!
