Katie Kontra
Say hi to Katie Kontra, the Fitness Manager at Mount Carmel Fitness in Lewis Center, OH. The center just successfully completed their MFA facility re-certification – they have been an MFA certified facility since 2018! According to the Center Director, Ian Lafferty, Katie “played a pivotal role in preparing for our re-certification.” Kudos to Ian, Katie, and the whole team at Mount Carmel!!
Katie has been with Mount Carmel Fitness for the past 5 years. She has a BS in Nutrition Community Health and Wellness. She is certified as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, 200 Vinyasa Yoga, Water Safety Instructor, Reiki II, and an ACE Health Coach.
We caught up with Katie recently and here’s what she had to say…
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I absolutely love empowering people to find peace and happiness through fitness. Facilitating someone through the process of learning a new skill and witnessing their satisfaction in themselves takes the work out of work!
What led you to choose this field?
I have a passion for cooking and in high school I came across the term “holistic nutrition”. The rest is history, and I am beyond glad to be in an endlessly expanding career path that is fulfilling.
What one piece of advice would you give to those just coming into this field of medical fitness?
Find joy in all the relationships you make with members, guests and co-workers. That way, when you endure a challenge learning a new skill or trying to accommodate varying requests, you can find confidence and support from the team you are a part of. The wellness profession is fortunately filled with positive attitudes, stimulating intellectual pursuits, and rewarding human connections. You chose a healthy workplace and that is important!
What did your facility gain by becoming certified by the Medical Fitness Association?
Our facility gained a unique sense of purpose and confidence becoming and maintaining the Medically Integrated Fitness Center certification. It is the backdrop to our commitment in serving our community with integrity.
Thank you, Katie, for empowering your facility members!
