What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy working with such a diverse population of people and seeing how far they have come throughout their fitness journey. Helping people achieve their fitness goals as well as just increase their ability to live their lives is the reason I got into this field and it makes work enjoyable every day.
What led you to choose this field?
I chose this field because it is a growing need for wellness in the medical community. Nowadays, we want people to move towards prevention instead of rehabilitation. It’s not your typical “gym” atmosphere and the people there are there for themselves to live healthier lives. Whether they are fighting an alignment or just coming out of a surgery, they are so appreciative, strong, and amazing people, it just completely drew me in.
What one piece of advice would you give to those just coming into this field of medical fitness?
One piece of advice I would give to those coming into the field of medical fitness is to immerse themselves in as much education and certifications as they can. When I first started, I didn’t know exactly what area I wanted to specialize in until the opportunity to get Cancer Exercise certified came up. I got certified and it was one of the most educational and in depth certifications I ever took and I ended up really enjoying helping the clients that came to me. It led me to want to branch out and continue to learn. The wonderful thing about this field is there is so much to learn and grow out there.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy traveling to new and exciting places especially if there is a great spot to hike. Recently, I just got back from Arizona where I did some hiking at the Grand Canyon. I love to be active, so I also really enjoy taking my wonderful puppy for long nature walks on my days off from the office.
Thank you, Kierstin!
