Meet Laurel Janssen
Say hi to Laurel Janssen, owner and manager of Sculpt 365 in Bakersfield and Tehachapi, CA.
Laurel is also the 2020 West Region’s Rising Star! (Well done, Laurel!!)
We caught up with Laurel recently and here’s what she had to say.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy meeting members when they first sign up. It is so rewarding to help them reach their health and fitness goals and see the positive transformation in their lives.
What has been your favorite/most successful initiative at Sculpt 365?
Diabetes education has become a key component in introducing our members to medical fitness. My father was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in 2016. He was told that it was a progressive disease and would continue to get worse. As our first guinea pig, we implemented an achievable, lasting weight loss program, exercise and healthy eating. As a result, his pre-diabetes has been completely reversed and we have been so excited to share our program with others.
Why did you become a member of the Medical Fitness Association?
We have long believed that medical fitness is the wave of the fitness future and we needed your expertise to help guide us. Lifestyle factors contribute to eighty percent of disease and the insurance industry and the government are overwhelmed by the costs. The national cost of diabetes alone is over three billion dollars each year, so the financial benefit of keeping people healthy is tremendous. Health Clubs can step up to bridge the gap between gyms, the weight loss industry and the medical field.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I’ve always loved sports and being active. I went to college on a tennis scholarship. After college I started bike riding. Now with a three and six year old, it’s more challenging to find time to exercise! However, you may often find me and my whole family on a mountain bike trail or a 5K run!
Thank you, Laurel. We’re glad we can be a part of your medical fitness journey!
