Meet Wes Pomarensky
Say hi to Wes Pomarensky! Wes is a Kinesiologist for Chronic Disease Populations at the Wellness Institute at Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg, Canada. He has been with the Wellness Institute for nine years.
Wes received his BA in Kinesiology from the University of Winnipeg. He is also the 2020 MFA International Rising Star!
We caught up with Wes recently and here’s what he had to say.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Watching individuals improve function, reduce pain and get more out of life. Aging isn’t a synonym of decline!
What led you to choose this field?
I love human performance, have always been a coach and with this job I get to do both and get paid for it. No brainer!
What one piece of advice would you give to those just coming into this field of medical fitness?
Coaching is more than reps and sets. Understanding motor learning. Understanding bioenergetics and physiology. Understanding how a good assessment drives exercise selection. Understanding how to build relationships and trust. Understanding communication. Understanding empathy. These are all things that make the difference between a good vs great coach!
What do you like to do outside of work?
I live for the summer months where I play tennis and golf as much as I can. I play guitar and piano often in my spare time and am constantly reading a book.
Thank you, Wes, for your advice on how to be a great coach!
