Webinar: One Step Closer: How Pole Walking Can Support Mental Health, Access to Fitness, and Connection Against Social Isolation
Growing evidence supports the priority of high-intensity exercise to improve function and quality of life, including improving mental health, for all adults and especially those with chronic or degenerative diseases. Nordic walking poles (Urban Poles) can help safely increase exercise intensity for individuals across a wide continuum of physical abilities and allow individuals with limited mobility the opportunity to participate in group exercise. Learn how adding specialized walking poles can elevate your walking and exercise programs, fulfilling many aspects of the Wellness Continuum, to engage and empower all participants to improve their mood and reduce social isolation.
Learning Objectives
1. Identify evidence-based benefits associated with pole walking to challenge clients’/patients’ exercise intensity to improve mental health.
2. Identify how modified Nordic walking (the Activator Technique) can improve posture, maximize balance, and boost confidence in frail or deconditioned adults, allowing for increased access to walking groups and other social fitness activities.
3. Identify other ways to use specialized walking poles to increase intensity of a workout for all levels of fitness and stages of life.
