Meet Dr. Joseph Ruane
Dr. Ruane is the Medical Director of the McConnell Heart Health Center in Columbus, OH. He is also founder and director of the Spine, Sport & Joint Center, a multispecialty practice specializing in the nonsurgical management of common orthopedic conditions.
His current research activities include the effects of stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis.
The McConnell Heart Health Center opened in 1998, and is a 130,000 square foot integrated health and wellness facility serving Central Ohio. The fitness membership includes 4,500 active members, and hosts disease specific wellness programs such as Cancer Wellness, Delay the Disease (Parkinson’s), Bone Health & Wellness and MS/Stroke Wellness. The community wellness center is supported by a host of orthopedic and cardiovascular services, all integrated in the confines of the McConnell Heart Health Center
Dr. Ruane was the proud recipient of the MFA Medical Director of the Year Award in 2017. Below is the recognition announcement for his award, describing his contributions to medical fitness:
Dr. Joseph Ruane has been recognized as an exceptional physician who has significantly advanced the welfare of his facility, health system and community through his tireless efforts to advance health promotion, exercise, nutrition and lifestyle management as critical components in implementing a population health strategy. His support and contributions have led to significant and consistent recognition of the value of medically integrated fitness into their local continuum of care. He has contributed to the growth of the Medical Fitness Association through his willingness to educate our members into the mind of the physician and what it takes to build partnerships that last. His willingness to share his knowledge freely and openly with our industry, his active role in civic and community affairs and his guidance to the McConnell Heart Health Center make it an honor to present this Medical Director of the year to Dr. Joseph Ruane.
He has lived in Columbus since 1991 with his wife Karen. They have two children, Steven and Scott, and their other child is a golden doodle named Ally. They enjoy traveling and boating together.
