As the time approaches to reopen our fitness facilities, it brings a wide variety of considerations. We won’t simply reopen to business as usual. These are uncharted waters but, as an Association, we can navigate them together!

We will be posting resources as they become available to share with you. Check the Wellness Wednesday section below for links to past Wednesdays, topics for upcoming Wednesdays and a link to register for this weekly event.

CLICK HERE for MFA’s Phased Reopening Guidelines for the Fitness Industry.
These guidelines were submitted to the Centers for Disease Control and reviewed by their subject matter experts. They have indicated that our recommended approach is both safe and comprehensive. In some cases, it goes beyond the CDC recommendations, but they were pleased by our overall approach.

Re-Opening Playbook from Daxko, the parent company to Club Automation
Daxko, the parent company to Club Automation, recently gathered distinguished panels of medical experts and industry leaders from boutique, club, and nonprofit facilities to discuss re-opening and operating safely in the new COVID reality. Our theory was that if we continually pooled and shared best practices and ongoing learnings, we could maximize staff and member safety across the world.

We have documented the panel’s collective thinking in the Re-Opening Playbook as a service to the entire health, fitness and wellness communities. Click here for the Re-Opening Playbook.

Life Fitness Face Coverings
As fitness facility owners consider best practices for reopening, many are looking to provide face coverings for their staff and exercisers to ensure proper safety measures are followed and align with local directives. We are happy to announce Life Fitness Face Coverings* are now available for purchase with all profits directed to No Kid Hungry and Direct Relief to support COVID-19 relief efforts.

These branded, reusable cloth face coverings are made with a dual-layer design of cotton and polyester. They are available in one size and can only be ordered in increments of 25 per box. Our own employees are producing them in Ramsey and Owatonna, Minnesota and Falmouth, Kentucky plants using locally sourced materials that support small businesses.

Offer from Health & Nutrition Technology
Health and Nutrition Technology (HNT) is a longtime Industry Partner of MFA. During these particularly challenging times, we want to give back to our colleagues. We’ve all struggled to adjust to new schedules, as well as new work and home environments. Having said that, many of us MAY need a little assistance staying on track with our own healthy lifestyle routines. Our founder, Dr. Schultz, started off in 1994 with a very simple idea that could be particularly relevant to MFA members and staff at this time…Knowing ≠ Doing.

Our RDNs regularly work with doctors, nurses and other medical and fitness professionals providing support, accountability and a problem -solving partner. You certainly know, but you just may need a little assistance to get back on track doing it. As a small team, HNT coaches have over 200 years of combined experience helping people lose weight, create healthy routines around movement and cement lifestyle habits to maintain it all. So…
We are offering a free remote group coaching program called “Launch” to all Members and staff through MFA.

• 12 weeks- 1 individual session plus 11 small group coaching sessions all done remotely
• Individual support via phone/email
• Lose up to 2-4 lbs per week depending upon meal plan – food is available for purchase
• Multiple times available
• Medical supervision through personal physician
• Sign up anytime between now and August 31st.

An Offer from Les Mills
Before COVID-19, 85% of gym members were doing fitness in their home, and 23% of regular exercisers were participating in online or app workouts. Now, the fitness landscape has changed forever, and we can expect those numbers to increase. A business model that relies only on live, in-person fitness experiences is no longer sustainable. You need a combination of live, virtual and digital offerings to remain relevant and connected to your members, within and outside of your four walls.

Delivering across live, live-streaming, virtual and on demand lets you deliver fitness to your members when they need it and gives you flexibility to continue to deliver during adverse circumstances. Leading clubs around the world are recognizing the COVID-19 crisis as a golden opportunity to ramp up their digital presence, ensuring they’re well-placed to win whether fitness consumers want online or offline workouts. Whether clubs choose to set up Instructor-led online classes, or by harnessing a member-centric solution like LES MILLS On Demand (LMOD), the key points to consider are ease of execution and the quality of the content.

Interested in getting started today by becoming a Les Mills affiliate? The Medical Fitness Association has partnered with Les Mills to give your members access to 800+ free online workouts for 60 days free. Start sharing our affiliate offer link right now with your members or click here to learn more about Les Mills on Demand.

Gym-Inspired Home Workouts
Staying connected to your members while they’re at home is critical during this time. To help with their health and fitness goals, we created options to help you stay engaged with your members.

Digital Coach Workouts of the Day, created by Life Fitness Academy trainers, are available to your members FOR FREE for the duration of the shutdown. Workouts will be refreshed daily for a limited time, and include options for bodyweight, strength, flexibility and restoration, or small accessory workouts.

Need something more personalized for your brand or want to expand virtual workouts past the shutdown? We have options for that too. Contact us for more details.

Home Accessory Packages
While they’re away from your facility, members can get more out of their home workouts with Digital Coach, a video tool that provides functional, strength, total-body and cardio training. Life Fitness has created accessory packages specially designed for the home to complement Digital Coach. We are offering three categories of accessory packages, seven total options, with pricing and weight variations. To ensure we take the pressure off your staff, Life Fitness will handle accessory package orders from your members.

Both Digital Coach and our Home Accessories Packages are great tools for your facility to remind members that their health and welfare remain top-of-mind while also offering solutions to do so.
