Webinar: A New Hope for Functional Outcomes using Neurologically Focused Rehabilitation for Those Living with Paralysis

Previous understandings of how the body can heal post-injury or diagnosis after a neurological setback believed that there was little to no hope for functional recovery. New cutting-edge protocols have reframed thoughts of this narrative, now giving hope to those living with paralysis. These protocols, focused on “activity-based therapy” or working below the level of injury or perceived area of diagnosis, have proven to be advantageous for those living with neurological disorders (Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, ALS, PLS, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Transverse Myelitis, Spina Bifida, and more.)

This approach has created groundbreaking outcomes (physically, functionally, mentally, emotionally, and with activities of daily living) in the lives of those living with paralysis. Unlike traditional rehabilitation, the “activity-based” approach focuses on re-activating and re-organizing the central nervous system in the neurologically impaired populations. This seminar will introduce this new, unconventional approach to rehabilitation, clarify the basic science behind the protocols, and highlight, through case studies, how it has proven so effective.

Learning Objectives
1. Understand the rationale of “training below the injury”
2. Recognize the benefits of activity-based therapy and provide an introduction to the S.T.E.P. Method
3. Identify quantitative measures to show the effectiveness of these types of therapies
