We caught up with Cinnamon recently and here is what she had to say.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Group Fitness and how it transforms participants physically, mentally, and often spiritually. I love when that light goes on for members and they begin to move mindfully. They connect with breath and to see people realize just how amazing their bodies are.
What has been your favorite/most successful initiative at FirstHealth Fitness?
The Cancer Wellness and other EIM programs. We have the privilege of using our knowledge and passion for health & fitness to assist individuals recovering from major medical events. The joy and sense of personal strength they have after 8 weeks of a personalized fitness/nutrition program is amazing.
What led you to choose this field?
I think in many ways it chose me. I struggled with weight from an early age. I was active and danced most of my life but when I added structured fitness training in my teens everything changed. I lost 40lbs and fitness has remained a constant in my life. Luckily, Jane Fonda and dance exercise were peaking in my twenties. My skills landed me work as an instructor. The desire to help others and explore the mind-body connection has driven my path in life to where I am now.
What one piece of advice would you give to those just coming into this field of medical fitness?
Choose this career path because you love it. Learn as much as you can so that you can adapt to the needs of your clients. Be patient. Find a mentor that will support your growth and development.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Hike, travel, and have fun adventures with my husband, sons and grandson. Take long power walks with my dog, listening to music or audible. I’m a Sci-fi fantasy adventure geek too. And I make time to sit in silence in this super fast-paced world.
